I can feel the sun warmly beating on my back, as I hear the waves of the ocean beating against the sand along the resort we're staying at. We just met, you and I. We have begun to get to know each other...you know...the usual stuff.

I grew up in Ohio, and you grew up in____ ? My color is teal, like the color of the sea off the Grand Cayman Islands....what is yours? I love Ohio State Football....you think your favorite football team has a chance at the Championship this year? Is your favorite gemstone that opal on your hand you are wearing? Did you know I almost went to Oregon this summer to try to mine some opals...just for fun? Have you ever panned for gold? I know...you would have to get your hands dirty......

Have you ever been on a sailboat in the Caribbean? There is something beautiful about the way the wind whips through the sails...and a little salt spray mists the bow....you can almost taste it. Of course, your hair gets all stiff and salty...but it is wonderful...you can see to the bottom. All those beautiful fish down there...grouper, eels, an occasional shark, even a stingray.

When was the last time you were at the beach? I love to fish from the surf....I sometimes catch some good keepers...but most of them I just throw back in...I learned that from a friend of mine from Georgia...he was related to some of the original settlers of the Cumberland Islands area....have you ever seen the wild horses running across the island. Some people say they are the descendants of the horses that survived a shipwreck off the point there back in the 1700's. I love horses. I like to take pictures of horses living in natural environments....something about their flowing manes as they run across the land. I actually signed up for a trial membership on this website...called the Equine Network....it is devoted entirely to horse photography. You can really learn a lot about it from the forums....anyhow, where were we?

I know...you were telling me about your interests....do you like nature photography? I love anything that I can justify spending time outdoors with a camera....butterflies, birds, hawks, horses, landscapes, trees, caterpillars....things that remind us of our responsibility to take care of the environment. Animals need places to live...even after we develop that new shopping mall...we should probably set up a little park or something so they can live their lives and have families...so our future generations can see what a red-tailed hawk looks like. I know...you like to shop and so do I...but I think we need to be more responsible about taking care of the world around us.

I guess those land developers in Atlanta forgot that water doesn't grow on trees...and most of those people there haven't had true running water in about 4 months...that's terrible. Oh, your dad is one of those land develpers in Atlanta...and he hates being bothered with wildlife studies. People should start to learn that they shouldn't waste those resources....we should really be better stewards of our natural resources. I mean...there is a beautiful National Park there with tons of water...but isn't that the point? That isn't for us to use...it really is for the preservation of the environment....and we probably should save that. The oil reserves in Alaska are the same way....we would probably lose an entire ecosystem if the big oil companies came in and started drilling for oil. The salmon would die...and all of the eagles would start to starve to death....

I know...I get on my soapbox..and sometimes go a little far. Where are you going? I thought we had something...can I call you? OK....you think I'm a big fat loser...we'll see about that:)

Not everyone is meant to be my friend, I guess. I mean, it isn't that hard to live in harmony with nature, people in New Hampshire do it all the time:)......
